Blacklight Rally!
ReplyDeleteSpirit Week- Tbh was too busy to know what was going on with that.
Script- Always good, never heard cause of mics.
Video- AMAZINGGGG (It was subpar but it wasn't that bad)
Mics- Trash, as always.
Performances- Valks and Cheer were good :) Dimmed lights made it look pretty cool too.
Blacklights- We need to buy some or find some more supplemental ones. Def not enough power strips and lights. Trying to get everything hooked up was a nightmare.
Games- Song game? Freshmen got a song that they didn't know, everyone else was fine.
Sports Teams- Good call to get sports teams out.
Class Dances- Really, Really, Really Cool. Like epic level. I was a bit occupied watching to actually switch songs for different classes.
Spirit Commissioners- Awesome as ever. Keep up the good work.
Tech needs to be more prepared for the amount of stuff that needs to be all hooked up. Starting earlier on the video and all the other prep could have been better for both spirit and tech. I personally think that pulling out the ASB Den speakers were a great choice for playing the music.
All in all, Great Rally :)
Spirit Week: It was simple, although barely anyone actually dressed up. Promo needs to start a lot earlier. I get what you guys are saying about not wanting to post too far in ahead, but at the same time I think what's most efficient is creating the FB event early, and putting small reminders in, increasing the # leading up to the actually spirit week. That way, people can actually get time to choose what to wear and dwell over it guess, haha. Also it would've been cool to integrate it with spoons, but I'm not sure of the logistics of that.
ReplyDeleteScript/Video: Awesome as always, but I think the overall plot got a bit lost through everything happening during the rally... I'm not sure exactly why, but it wasn't as prominent as the past rallies.
Microphones: Great for the most part!!
Performances: Fabulous cause I <3 Cheer + Valks, but next time make sure to set some ground rules about what the sports teams are allowed to use during their cheer. The powder on the ground made it hard for the Valks to dance and they were pretty upset about that.
Blacklights: Hmm...They were alright, although as always were only focused in one direction and were easily blocked by bodies and decs...but that's out of our power I guess.
Games: Singing game was fun (as usual)! Not sure why we didn't do one big song with the whole school, so it would be fun to bring that back next rally. Also I'm not sure if letting classes choose their song is the best idea...seems unfair to me cause it's first come first serve...
Sports Teams: Since I'm not a member of a sports team I guess it's not my place to say much but I honestly don't think putting in sports was a good idea. Like, I get that they want recognition and all, but maybe we could do that in another way. I think this rally felt really short and the reason to me was cause I felt like another sports team came out every 5 minutes...it took away from the overall plot/flow of the rally in my opinion.
Class Dances: Good. Maybe clarify how long each time should be (time limit?), but maybe you did and I'm just unaware. Another thing: I don't think that the dance scoring should be announced separately from the rally scoring. I'm not just being sour cause of our class, but I don't think it was so big of a deal that it had to be announced separate. I think it can be a put-down for some of the dancers/choreographers...not sure if CP's receive the rubric for rallies or not, but I think decs are equally as important as dances/cheering, etc. so it should all be in one rubric. Otherwise we should have separate scoring for best decs, loudest cheering and whatnot.
Overall spirit: Good!!! Small note: keep more time in between calling out classes. By the time you called the sophomores and we finished cheering, the seniors had already been called and started to cheer. I would wait till the previous class has quieted down.
Jessica, Sam, Shivani, great job. You guys were fantastic and put on a really fun rally. Overall I think there was a lot of energy and you guys did a great job, and as always it was a learning experience. We can only get better!!!!! :)))
Sorry this is super late, but in case anyone reads this for next rally...
ReplyDeleteSpirit Week: I love the idea of dressing up to match the theme, but I feel like it's often too difficult for people and at the end of the day, the theme doesn't matter as much as the rally itself? If we could do a Monday: PJ day, Tuesday: Twin Day, Wednesday: Formal Day, Thursday: Would you still be my friend if I wore this to school day, then I think you'll get a lot more participation because they're easy and things that people would want to dress up in? Also, it'd be really nice if you could maybe a poster or two around school (or one at the top of the quad with a general "tomorrow's spirit day is..." and then you'd change the bottom part every day) announcing what the dress up days are. I personally don't have FB so it was really hard figuring out what day was what (I almost did PJ day on Twin day oops).
Script/Video/Microphones: Wonderful, I just wish everyone would recognize that because of how hectic the rally is. :(
Performances: Love Cheer and Valks!! But a time limit and approval of sports teams cheers would be great. It's kind of hard for classes to cheer for sports teams if their cheer is like 30 seconds long LOL.
Blacklights: I think it'd be cool to have a segment where all lights except blacklights are turned off because it was pretty light for most of the rally. Yay for getting multiple, but maybe try to figure out extension cords earlier because we had to ask people from our class to provide some of the cords for other classes the night before.
Games: Singing game is the best/easiest I think because everyone gets to participate! I agree with Mira though, I don't think we should have the option of choosing (as classes) songs because it kind of ruins the surprise element and the first come first serve is unfair. I like the whole school one too!
Sports Teams: I think having sports teams is fine (entire purpose of a rally is to recognize sports teams anyways?) but I think their cheers should be a) screened beforehand and b) have a strict time limit. Maybe have all sports be recognized one after another? They could each do a really quick chant and then step off to the side, and then all come together again for a final cheer for everyone. Then you don't have to worry about integrating each one into the script and it's faster/communal?
Class Dances: We're trying to make changes to the rally rubric, but we're thinking of not judging class dances at all because people dance because it's fun/for the class, not to compete! Also, then everyone can enjoy the dances because classes will choreograph to face them rather than just the judges. (But great job on your part!!)
Overall Spirit: I agree with Mira about waiting a bit! Also, I think it's helpful if you could stand in front of a class (facing back) before calling each class. For example, Facing the sophomores before you call the freshmen. It's just easier for classes to prepare to cheer that way. :)
GREAT JOB!! I just wish people could see how much you guys do. :(
ANOTHER RANDOM THING, COULD WE ALL SEND OUT AN EMAIL WHEN BLOG POSTS ARE UP BECAUSE SOME OF US (ME) AREN'T ON FACEBOOK. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat job to spirit! It was a fun rally.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing how other schools do it, it would be nice to get more staff members involved. Also, I think moving the judges might be a good idea-- it takes away the competition atmosphere a little bit. In terms of the games, I think it all went well. The dances were great, maybe even something to continue?
Spirit week could be promo-ed more!!! I think having the whole class post pictures or something like that would be a good bet :)
