Homecoming Trick or Treating & Pie Eating Contest Debrief

Hey Leadership!

Let us know your input on the entire Trick or Treating experience teachers contributed to at brunch and the pie eating contest at lunch.

Also, would you guys rather have the annual Halloween Costume Parade we usually have? Or was this better?

Let us know!

Love,
ASB Recognition & ASB Spirit <3

  1. Pros:
    -Good Candy
-Teachers felt involved and a part of school goings-on

    Cons:
I felt like not that many people knew about it, despite the intense promo we did for it.

    Suggestions:
-To increase incentive to trick-or-treat, people come to top of quad at brunch with at least 20 pieces of candy to get a big candy bar
-The "music walks" always attract attention and we could make it Costume only?
-The Parade is usually a good hit, but I think the costume walk for big candy bars would be a way the school could see the costumes and yet shy people who don't want to walk and "be displayed" can still participate.

  2. Pros:
-a lot of people went to the Trick or treat
-teachers were more involved in a school event
-food(candy) is always a good incentive!

    Cons:
-not that many people knew a bout the trick or treat/pumpkin pie eating contest

    Overall:
-pumpkin pie contest attracts more people, whereas a parade doesn't usually get many participants
-some sort of incentive to trick or treat? maybe they can exchange candy for another item
-costume walk could work, but people need an incentive
-TRICK OR TREAT WAS A GREAT IDEA!

  3. Pros:
    -high attendance
-promo worked well- night before profile pictures/event sharing/statuses, etc
    -free candy!
    -teachers enjoyed it

    Cons:
-ran out of candy quickly, but idk how to give them more candy because they already had 100 pieces each
-maps didn't really matter- people just went to open classrooms
-sound issues (no one's fault), but yelling into mic made it hard to hear

    Suggestions:
-we should have advertised the pie contest instead of "special surprise"

  4. Pros: students got involved in getting candy from teachers
great effort towards trying something new

Cons: Needs to be communicated to CPS that volunteers will be needed for the pie eating contest
Need a lot more candy (500 FRESHMEN this year, these KIDS love candy)

Suggestions: Could have done a trick-or-treat hunt in which kids would have to go around to look for teachers that give out candy
Diversify the candy given to each teacher (A candy based on a teacher's personality or whatever)

  5. Pro: so many more people dressed up
-promo was good, a lot of my friends heard about the candy/trick-or-treat and were really excited to dress up

    Cons:
    -teachers didnt have enough candies
    -maps were kind of disregarded
    -didn't get pictures!! :(

    Suggestions:
    -more candy
-definitely keep the trick or treating
-maybe get a place where people can take pictures with their friends on cool backdrops? idk

  6. Pros:
Number of people dressing up and participating in the trick or treat
    Promo worked well
Signs on teachers' doors showing that you could get candy from them

    Cons:
There wasn't as big of a crowd around the pie eating contest (might have been the rain)
Maps weren't used (not that this is a bad thing, but it's probably not needed next year)

Overall, I thought this was a really good idea! Anyone could participate and it created a really fun atmosphere throughout the school. Great job implementing and executing a brand new idea!!

  7. Pros:

-trick or treating was super popular!!

    Cons/suggestions:

-promo wasn't great for the pie eating contest
-rules of pie eating contest weren't specified well
-candy ran out FAST. As an idea- maybe we can give the teachers the bag of candy and ADVISE them to give candy to those in their 3rd period class who are wearing costumes FIRST, and THEN give them out during brunch. That way, at least everyone gets some candy :)

Overall, it was a LOT of fun!!! WOO

  8. Pros: Everyone loves free candy, more people than I've ever seen dressed up, maps were really clear and informative for students!

Cons: Promo overall - e.g. leadership students didn't know about it the day before, pie eating in the middle of the quad next time pls!! also encourage more teachers to participate next year - i feel like they should be more supportive of students in general

  9. Pros:
fun for students to see teachers handing out candy.
    many people dressed up
the map and signs on the teachers' door were helpful
most people knew about the trick or treating or caught on easily

    Cons:
The pie eating contest was disorganized
people didn't know about it and the people who did know about it, didn't know how it was going to work
    promo wasn't very good

    Overall:
The ideas are good, but the pie eating contest should be more organized. Love the idea!!!!! So many people dressed up which was pretty awesome!!!

  10. Pros:
you can't go wrong with trick or treating at school!
gave students an incentive to be spirited and dress up

    Cons:
promo was not as effective as it could have been
-perhaps getting the teachers to tell their classes about the trick or treating, and if they were participating, may have been a better way of getting that info out

    Overall:
love the idea and intent behind it
plus, it was really fun! :)
