First Semester Food Club Day Debrief!!

Hello all,

Pros/cons of food club day?
and: should we limit the number of clubs per food club day  (should we keep this system for next year)
keep in mind that:
-each club can only participate in one food club day per year
-there were a lot less clubs per food club day

anything else?? let us know :)

  1. I think we definitely tried something different, and I think the main problem this time was that these clubs weren't fully prepared for the change. All of the clubs bought the amount that they usually would buy, but there was a lot less competition, so in the end a lot of people complained about the lack of food.

In the future, I think we should maintain this rule, because if the clubs buy more, it's beneficial for both the clubs and consumer, whereas the old rule benefited just the people buying food.

Tickets were really organized, releasing foods + prices was a really good thing to do; the map at the top of the quad was also useful. Just make sure to give clubs more time to discuss within themselves about food instead of asking for the food & price the day the email is sent out.

Overall, pretty successful first try, and I think it'll get better as clubs figure out the new policy! :)

  2. I definitely agree with Sophia that it was a beneficial change. I believe every club sold out, which was good for the clubs, and goes back to the purpose of club food day, which is to raise money for clubs. The big problem was that none of the clubs realized there would be twice as many people who wanted to same amount of food they usually bought, so they ran out of food quickly. Because of this, spendthrifts who wasted until the last minute to get food (myself included) couldn't get food. The upside to this is that people can use their tickets next food club day- so be sure to make this known!

Map well helpful, ticket selling was organized. A complaint that I heard from clubs was that they didn't get enough time to figure out their food and prices, so maybe send that out earlier.

gj clubs! we're moving in the right direction!

  3. Food Club Day (Club Food Day?) was very successful. Clubs sold out really quickly, which was awesome, but they weren't prepared for the change. As long as they know that they should buy twice as much food because there are half as many clubs, this is a good change. Tickets were organized, and the map at the top of the quad was really helpful.

Some cons, however: I think there was a bit of a lack of communication. There wasn't enough time for clubs to figure out how much they would charge for their food, so sending that out earlier would be beneficial. Also, clubs were a little confused as to how to turn in tickets, and I know I personally didn't hear the announcement over the speakers.

One more thing: will leftover tickets carry over to the next FCD?

  4. I know for FBLA Food Club Day was very successful. I think it is good that this change was implemented. I also think it was good that clubs did not mention how much more food they should buy just because if clubs did not sell out they could blame the clubs commission.

I agree with Jimmy in that there was a lack of communication about when to turn in tickets/process. Usually the clubs commission would attach a piece of paper that had a ticket count that the club presidents would fill out. There would be three ticket counts and then the envelope would be turned in. Also I agree there was not enough time for clubs to figure out how to charge their food. I know one club president complained to me that she was not able to sell food just because the notice was too late. Also in the future I think the club food day map and list should be sent through school loop because a lot of people do not have access to facebook. I know a lot of students that were confused on what food club day was and were wondering about the list. Also good job on getting a survey out because I think it's good to know what the club presidents think about the new change!

    Overall great work :)

  5. Pros:
    Was not too hectic
Clubs made a lot more money

    Cons:
Lack of communication to clubs about buying a sufficient amount of food
Disappointment in the student body body because of a lack of food and complaints about no refunds (understandable)
ONE MAJOR THING: using the same tickets next year isn't going to be a solution to the complaints for having extra tickets because I can find a big roll very easily before the next semester ( http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Double-Raffle-Ticket-Roll/dp/B005OMVJ2W )

Suggestions: All Classes should be allowed to have a booth in Club Food Day both semesters because they actually need money

  6. Pros:
    - Great change, helped clubs sell out
    - Less variety, but less chaotic (a good compromise)

    Cons:
    - Like everyone else said, communication:
    1) Letting clubs know about the competition difference ahead of time (leading to them being able to buy more food)
    2) Letting students know they can use their tickets for the next FCD

    - I actually don't like the idea of allowing people to use their tickets for a second FCD, because I don't think it'd be too hard for someone to get similar looking tickets (like Ghanshyam said). For people like me who didn't buy food until the last minute, that's our problem-- unless at some point Clubs commission gets some sort of way to make the tickets unique or easy to identify.

  7. Pros:
    -Organized Ticket Sales
-Maps was really helpful for me

    Cons:
-My friends had extra tickets, didn't have time to spend it all

  8. pros:
    -ticket sales were organized
    -maps were very helpful
-clubs made money since there was less competition
-not as busy/easier since fewer clubs sold

    cons:
-lack of food, some people have extra tickets
-the clubs were not prepared to buy more food to cope with fewer clubs selling

    suggestions:
-really emphasize to the clubs to prepare more food since fewer clubs are selling
-emphasize to the students that only 1/2 the clubs on campus are selling
-have class fundraisers both times because classes need money

  9. Pros:
ticket sales were fantastic. Super organized, very clear.
Every club made money because of less competition.

    Cons:
Lack of communication on many aspects-
-people didn't know that they could save tickets
-Clubs did not have enough food
-Clubs didn't know where to turn in tickets

    One suggestion for NEXT year:
Find out if clubs make more money from one club food day with less competition, or from two food club days with more competition.

  10. Club food day was a success like always. It was great to see so many clubs earn so much money and to see so much less clutter and space for clubs to sell properly. However, I feel like many students that were not part of club food day as an officer were not aware of the changes, so many were confused at the shortage of food.

I was also disappointed in the amount of food that there was, because as everyone else was saying, the clubs weren't prepared to have enough food to meet the demand. I thought it was good that most clubs sold out and earned a lot of profit, but I would also be interested to know how many clubs still would prefer two club food day opportunities.

Just a dumb question: would it be possible to host 3 or 4 club food days for next year? I know this would be a lot of work on ASB Clubs' behalf, but I think the current system of splitting up the clubs into groups is helpful while allowing them more opportunities to sell if they need to. Perhaps the first two club food days of the year could be split up (like this year) and the last one could be like our all-clubs-together food club days (like last year), giving clubs that didn't break even or need additional funding to have a second chance to sell.

Remind me because I've forgotten - why is it that we didn't allow classes to sell food again? I think it's good we're reducing competition as much as possible, but at the same time like Beatrice was saying, classes really do need the money. If I ever have remaining tickets, I like spending it on supporting my class, regardless of what we're selling.

  11. Pros: I liked having the food club days split. It made it a lot easier for people to wander around and it definitely maximized profit for the clubs participating. Ticket sales went smoothly, and it was nice that there was still a booth around while food club day was going on so people could buy last minute tickets.

Cons: Clubs ran out of food! But I think this is an issue that comes with any new idea, and I am confident that clubs will prepare more food for the next food club day.

  12. Pros: I like the way it was this time, where the clubs only got to sell once because I felt that it was a lot more organized and efficient and a lot less crowded than usual. I don't think that we should worry too much about the fact that some of the clubs ran out of food because now they know so next time shouldn't be too bad
Also ticket sales were a lot more organized and I liked how we had it facing the auditorium instead of facing the quad because that reduced the crowd.
Cons: I think we should figure out what to do about extra tickets because that could be an issue in the future, with complaints about not being able to re-use them. Also classes should be allowed to sell even though they are not technically a club, because as mentioned before, they need the money. Maybe for the next club food day?

  14. Pros:
    - The maps were very clearly drawn out and useful
    - Having the ticket prices for the various foods at the line for tickets itself was great, because I saw a lot of people deciding on how many tickets to buy based on those numbers
    - Less competition made the quad less hectic and clubs with food that would usually be overlooked had the chance to actually sell out!

    Cons:
    - As everyone else has stated, the biggest con was that clubs ran out of food, but next time I'm sure clubs will plan accordingly and purchase more!
    - And yes, I think it would be nice for classes to be able to sell food both times as well, since they need the money more than a regular club would

Overall: well done! I know that some of the changes were really last minute, but you guys did a great job of adapting and held an awesome club food day! :)

  15. Pros: Awesome food at horrendous prices like always. Map was great. Music was sub-par (woot for my lack of music choosing ability). Generally really well run.

Cons: As everyone else has said, clubs ran out super quickly :(
Map was nice, but handout maps or like maps at each table would have been nice to have. I felt like it was really difficult to remember where all the places that I wanted to go to, and revisiting the map was a long and arduous journey. Also dealing with the extra tickets would be an issue worth addressing.

OVERALL: Amazing food club day, great fun, not enough food, horrible music and in need of more maps :))

  16. I realize that the ticket counting system the clubs commission has helps prevent "fraud", but I know for a fact there were rumors going around that people had managed to use similar-looking tickets to get food from the clubs.

Unsure as to how this could be solved - but I think club presidents should be made aware of this as a precaution for next time!
