Leg Council Feedback

As a followup to our discussion in class this week, we wanted to ask you guys for more feedback about the following questions:

1. How do we get people to become Leg reps and come to Leg meetings?
2. How do we elicit more feedback/action from Leg reps?
3. Suggestions for next year?

Some pieces of feedback from earlier:
-Somehow encourage teachers to allow Leg reps to speak, be supportive
-Fight stereotype of Leg unimportance vs. ASB as a whole
-Bring food to all meetings (we've brought to most, not all)
-Increase activity points for Leg
-Provide meaningful work (what constitutes meaningful work?)
-Half-year terms for reps
-Apparel for reps

Thanks!

Amit, Julia, and Hima

  1. 1. inform teachers more thoroughly about what leg reps do, and how important leg reps are; mandate that teachers take the process more legitimate; have the class take a vote for leg rep volunteers

I really like the idea of half-year terms for reps; it makes them feel less overwhelmed about missing a lot of tutorials, and if the first semester leg rep isn't as coorperative/involved, there's another one for next semester that will hopefully improve.

-apparel is a good idea; makes them feel more legitimate

-once or twice a year have maybe a ASB + leg rep social/gathering? just to show that leg reeps are indeed important to our decisions and to increase transparency

  2. 1. I agree with the semester-long terms, the leg-reps wouldn't feel as if they were committing to something huge and year-long. Throw a party for them! Appreciate the work they do by tediously reading the announcements every week.

    2. Utilize the leg reps for more than opinions. Maybe throw a hearts party sometime before hearts week and provide food and music while everyone (including ASB members, piggybacking off of Beatrice's ASB social idea) cuts out hearts? They might feel as if they're doing something more productive for the student body (or this could backfire and it could seem as if we're piling our busy work on them)

    3. Get the teachers on board. With the support and enthusiasm of the teacher, I find it's a lot easier to help get the class excited about what we're telling them concerning ASB. Possibly improving relations with the teachers first by proving what we do as an ASB class

    4. Apparel!!

  3. 1. I believe we need to give them more power. Perhaps, they get to help decide class themes for rallies etc.

    2. A similar blog post system may work efficiently. Other than that, maybe you can use general google forms/surveys.

    3. Give them responsibilities outside of class. Maybe helping out at rally set ups or participating in other leadership activities. Lastly, maybe the last leg council meeting could be a townhall.
