  2. Pros: - good promo of the event
    - staff pictures were great! it was good because staff were able to get involved
    - coin wars was well promoed
    - mobros/whole process went very smoothly

Cons: - I think there was good promo of the event solely, but I think it would have been good for a video to go up about what movember really is
    - Also I think it would be good next year to have something going on throughout movember rather than just one week. I know two years ago, leadership students would take pictures of people with a cutout and it went very well!

Overall, I think the event went well!! Great job :)

  3. pros:
    -profile pictures were super cute
-the staff pictures were adorable omg

    cons:
-i think as effective as the profile pictures were, the captions were so long that a lot of people didn't completely read through them
-i don't think there was too much explanation of what exactly movember is or why we're doing it?

    suggestion:
as a senior, i only have five classes this year so i didn't really get a chance to stick around and watch the mo bros do their activities :( is there any way they could possibly do a few during brunch so that everyone gets a chance to watch?

  4. I was at Fantastics practice every single day at lunch during that week but from the videos I saw and what I heard, the whole week with all the activities was a blas and very successful. Big ups to Hima for recognizing that people leave on thursday and changing that day's event to brunch even though it rained and it didnt happen, the planning and thought is what counts!!!!
Also as Hima pointed out in class we raised a larger percentage in a shorter amount of time than last year so that just goes to show the promo worked and people were into it.
Lastly, I don't know if this was just me because my friends and I grew our beards out but I felt that more people at school were growing beards just showing how supportive and into it the student body was this year!
    Great job!

  5. pros:
-profile picture promos were very cute
-staff pictures were very effective in showing teacher involvement and increasing awareness to students w/o Facebook, as they're just walking from class to class

    cons:
-people w/o a 6th or 7th period tend to leave at brunch and miss/don't feel inclined to watch the mo bro activities
-profile picture captions too long (maybe ignored)

    suggestions:
-maybe spread out movember events all throughout the month, rather than just a week
-split up the leadership class into a few groups and have several types of profile pictures for promo. it would be more interesting to the students and they would feel more inclined to read the captions as they appear on newsfeed

Overall, great job Hima and Sophia :)

  6. Pros:
    -Profile pictures were very creative!
-Staff pictures were a great way to get them involved. Awesome to seem them on the front page of the website!
    -Movember Pageant as publicity
-Coin wars is a creative way to raise money. Utilizes class competition.

    Cons/Suggestions:
-Movember reps could have done more representing the cause and not just doing silly things at lunch
-It was hard to see the pie eating contest with everyone crowding the table. Better to have the audience spread out so everyone can see
-It didn't really seem that many people were inspired or deeply motivated to support the Movember cause. Maybe we can reflect on how we can inspire the school to participate in a meaningful event such as Movember.

    Congrats Hima and Sophia!!!

  7. Pros
    - involving teachers! it helped increase awareness
    - the activities with the mo-bros. always fun to watch and attracts attention
    - coin wars made money!
    Cons
    - the meaning behind movember was a bit lost. maybe next year we can try to say facts about cancer or something like that to remind people that this is a charitable month?

    Couple of thoughts:
    1. Should guys who grow out their beards get an incentive on the last day of November? Like a candy cane or something small like that?
    2. Also, some girls complained about how they don't get representation in breast cancer the way prostate cancer does. Try taking this into consideration for next year, and maybe we can have a school-wide awareness month for breast cancer too!

  8. Pros: Successful monetarily.
Cons: I felt like people didn't know much about it, it wasn't as well publicized as last year. I also felt like it was super low key for whatever reason.

I can't say that I saw much of Movember so nothing much to comment on.
Good Job, I would recommend making it a bigger deal next year.

  9. GOOD:
I definitely felt the hype during the week of coin wars/activities
I liked teacher involvement a lot
quad activities attracted a lot of attention
    facebook promo seemed sufficient
did very well despite Mr. Bale's lack of involvement (y)

    LESS GOOD:
I wish we had emphasized the prostate cancer part more
not as much hype throughout most of the month

One suggestion would be to find ways to engage the student body for longer than just a week or two. Whether that means spreading out activities or adding more will be for next year's mo'makers to decide!

  10. GOOD:
    - Profile pictures was an adorable and smart idea
    - The teacher movember pictures were on point and it's always fun to see teachers dressed up in mustaches and on the school website. I think as ASB students we should always try our best to include the staff when given a chance to. Great job!

    NOT SO GOOD
    - For some reason, I didn't feel the hype this year. I wasn't even in leadership last year and I remember the constant updates on coin wars, the "we have to donate!" exclamations between my friends, and the "oh man, I forgot to bring my wallet today." Maybe it was just me, but this year I didn't quite feel that anymore. Maybe it was because a lot of my senior friends left at lunch this year compared to last year.
    - I would want more activities throughout the month, like taking pictures of people around campus with mustaches and uploading them as well as having students take pictures in front of the huge "movember" bedsheet. I feel like the week that movember happened I was also extremely busy, so I missed out on many of the activities.
    - Even though we raised more money this year than last year in a single week, I still feel like having weekly updates about which class was in the lead and the like throughout the month pumped me up more and more. This really is up for the future movember makers to decide, but I found that having a month to donate kept me excited.

  11. Pros:
-both profile pictures and staff pictures were great! They definitely helped promote and garner support.
-I felt like people who watched the pageant enjoyed it (especially talent show). Good job on deciding the events!
-A lot of money earned through Coin Wars, especially considering the time frame :)

    Suggestions:
-I agree with a lot of people that the whole purpose of Movember was not as emphasized. Maybe we could start off Movember by sending out a video that describes Movember and all the activities we have planned?
-incorporate more activities throughout the month. I liked keeping most of the activities to one week, but a small activity every Friday could have helped create more hype.
-Just an idea: maybe we could have some sort of board where we could add students' pictures in a Lynbrook x Movember type of thing. This could also be incorporated into a Friday activity, like a "come take a picture and show your support for Movember" type of thing, where students can actually see their own picture in a collage. This might be able to create more hype as well.

Overall, great job Hima and Sophia! Thanks for taking on Movember, even with the other stuff you had to worry about.

  12. Pros:
-the profile pics was good promo
-pics of teachers showed students that teachers were also involved
    -events were entertaining!
    Suggestions:
-not many people knew about it
    -more promo
-coin wars was only a week, but we did earn a lot of money
-try to attract the students and encourage them to watch pageant!
-freshmen might not have been aware of movember purpose
-have someone take pictures and videos and post them on fb page because some people missed the pageants and would have loved to see them
-also some people might be lazy to go out to the quad and watch
    -have the memories forever!!
-guys who represented the class could have had the beard pic like us and also promo it more
-anyone who wanted to take a picture with a beard or paper mustache could on top of the quad
    -include the student body more

Overall, I really enjoyed watching the pageant this year and I think the classes all worked really hard for the events! Your guys are awesome for holding Movember and congratulations!!

  13. We need to consider whether Movember is worth the effort. I think that each event that goes on at Lynbrook has its own lifetime (e.g. Sadies, Short Film Festival), and I think Movember has reached its end. Now I could be completely wrong, and we could keep raising money for Movember, and it could become an annual amazing success. But I think for the four years I've seen it, it's been on the decline in relevancy to the student body. And "hype" doesn't help make things relevant.

I think we need to begin looking into causes that are much more personal to Lynbrook -- though prostate cancer is a problem, it's not a problem that's immediate to us (since most men get it so much later in life). And as a result, people feel disconnected from the purpose behind it all -- it just becomes a fun time to grow a beard and maybe donate some coins for "something". You get to see some guys embarrass themselves, some more facial hair at Lynbrook, but like many of the others have already said, the cause is lost. BUT THAT COULD BE JUST FINE! To expect 14-17 year olds to care about the world outside of their own is a lot, and the money still goes to the charity.

My two cents is something like breast cancer (as Sam mentioned, but even this is only to an extent) or suicide prevention (I'd definitely vie for this one) or drug/alcohol abuse could be more effective. But even with those causes, it's all about showing that these are close to us -- we're not too different from Gunn/Paly, breast cancer family deaths, the alcohol/marijuana problem we know Lynbrook has, but just don't talk about. And then, we need to give the opportunity for people to feel/do/want something more than coin wars: guest speakers during school (like GSA panel), pink/purple ribbons around campus, moments of silence in the quad, weekend runs. Challenge for ASB next year? Get into people's hearts and find something great to give to the outside world!

  14. I think you all did a fantastic job organizing the event! Promo was unique, activities fun, especially with the jumble of other activities that were going on and last minute notification. (Only thing is that there should be a specific group assigned to take on Movember right after Homecoming's over next year, since I know that the assignment was pretty last minute so SopHima had to cry a lot)

However, like Amit, I'm concerned about the value of Movember in general. It's great that we're reaching out to the community and raising awareness of Movember, but we have limited time (and sanity) and the amazing efforts planning could be more valuable elsewhere.
Honestly (and to be quite harsh), I think that if we need to resort to the superficiality of exploiting class competition and having 8 guys cross dress to keep the "hype" alive, it may not be worth it. (And we lose the meaning that we were trying to promote in the process). Perhaps another Catalyst for Compassion to "replace" Movember? Hearing a lot of people's personal project ideas today, I think that we can come up with better events that appeal more to the student body and have value.

  15. I thought Movember was a success this year!
    Pros: -profile pictures
    - teacher decs
    -the events in the quad
    -raising awareness
    Cons:
-being able to see: I know for at least the pie eating contest, we put the table in the middle of the quad so people would be able to see better, but then there was only this one group of people crowding around the table and no-one else could really see so the next time we have a table in the middle of the quad we might want to create boundaries so everyone can see.
-promo: not that many people knew about it
-student body involvement: I think that only the Mo-bros were really the only people involved in the whole competition part and that we should have a challenge for girls also
-Like Amit and Sally said, raising money for prostate cancer is a really narrow vision, and I think we need to stress more about what the real meaning behind Movember is. And If we do Movember, then next year we should definitely do something for breast-cancer awareness or just cancer awareness in general. That being said, I feel like we shouldn't take away Movember because it's a lot of fun to watch and it gives people not in ASB a chance to get out there and be seen. And a lot of people do enjoy watching the events at the quad. But (just an idea) maybe we can do something second semester, that doesn't involve donations,to raise awareness on a topic closer to home.

  16. Pros:
-I liked how you got the teachers into part of Movember promo
    -Great events
-ASB profiling (just a suggestion: if we each had multiple profile pictures and staggered profiling throughout the week, awareness would have gotten out more effectively)

    Cons:
-The hype for coin wars wasn't as much as I felt last year. I'm not sure if it's just my class not being as spirited, but there wasn't as much enthusiasm about raising money
-I feel like the purpose of Movember is lost in the pageant and the class competition. It's good that we're reaching out to a cause, but it seems like our main focus isn't on raising money for charity
-As for the "no shave" aspect of Movember, perhaps we could find a way to get girls into participating or find a way for boys who can't grow a moustache (yet) a way to join in
-Lastly, we hold more events that raise money for charity at Lynbrook. Movember is our main annual charity event--why not host more?

    1. PROS
-I really liked the profile pictures!! They were very cute :)
-staff x stache was super cool, I feel like staff involvement in these school-wide events definitely help
-MoBro pageant was great!! (or so I've heard)

      CONS
-I know a major part of this was trying to raise awareness about prostate cancer but I feel like it's drowned out by class competition and the MoBro hype
-Coin wars was a week only, and even though it was still successful, why not increase the length?

      SUGGESTIONS
-Bring pictures with the MoBros back!! I really liked how they went around with posters last year and took pictures with people from our class
-Aside from Movember which supports prostate cancer, have an event that raises awareness about a topic which might affects a lot more of us now or somewhere near in the future

  17. LOL better late than never?

    Pros
    .Do it again
    .tons of people get excited
.food eating is always fun to watch
.i love how staff was involved too

    Cons
.Teach people about the mikes before handing it to them (too much feedback)
    .Coin wars promo
    .More about the cause

    GREAT JOB

P.s No shave November for the ladies lol i'm sure we dont shave anyway bc its too cold, but i do not think any of of us would wanna show that off? idk my two cents

  18. Pros:
-Staff involvement was great and students seemed to really enjoy seeing their teachers with mustaches
-It definitely helped that Sophia kept updating the event. Seeing those updates constantly reminded me about Movember.
    -Student participation was great!

    Cons:
-I didn't really feel the hype this year. Like Jessica said, last year, there were constant updates on coin wars and I felt a lot more involved. It's not that there was not enough promo this year but I feel like it got watered down with all the other things we were doing.
-Reading the comments, a lot of people have said that the cause of Movember is lost in all of this class competition. I also agree that the cause was somewhat lost. I think we need to think of other ideas to emphasize why we are doing Movember.

Also, I do not think we should get rid of the event. While I understand it may not be relative to high school students, it's still something that the students take part in. Yes, we do need to figure out how to emphasize what Movember is about but taking away the event is not going to change much. At least with the event, we are able to raise money for a charity. Including breast cancer awareness month would be a good option as well. Another thing: I feel like the month of November put a lot of stress on ASB. There were way too many things going on and I feel like the quality of some of our work was lost in the rush. I would suggest better planning for next year so that events are spread out.

Overall, great job Hima and Sophia! You both handled the event very well considering the amount of work that you guys had to do on top of Movember planning.

  19. Hima and Sophia,

Movember was wonderful this year. I think we were definitely more efficient and raised just as much money. Moreover, I think the message was communicated well. I absolutely loved the teacher involvement. Overall, probably one of the best executed events that I have seen.

Moving forward, I think it would be great to have more student involvement with the pageant. Maybe sending out a poll as to what they would like to see take place? In addition, (and I know we didn't have enough time for it this year) I wanted to have a video from the ASBO team explaining the objective of the supporting this organization.

    Love,
    Rani
