<3,
ASB SOCIAL
The welcome back dance was super fun!! I loved how everyone was able to dress up for the theme because it was simple. A lot of people were just jamming out to the music and having a good time. I heard that the ping pong table was a hit as well. I think that it was a lot better than last year, because last year no one was really dancing. A super minor problem was that some people didn't know that you had to check out if you wanted to leave before 9. It wasn't that big of a deal. Also the DJ didn't censor some of the inappropriate words. But overall it was a really successful dance!
ReplyDeleteGreat theme, very easy to for people to just pick something up from their house and just put it on. No offense to the DJ but he was absolutely NOT VERY GOOD (nicest way to put it), but I'm glad we got the link crew guy and jprom guy all signed up for homecoming. Other than that the ping pong table was great and people seemed to enjoy the food truck, good turnout!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people seemed to enjoy the food truck and ping pong table, and I thought these two additions were a good middle ground from it being like last year, where there were almost too many activities that may have distracted from the dance, and previous years, where there was nothing to do besides dancing.
ReplyDeleteThe dance started out a bit slow, even though that's almost always the case, but by the end it seemed like everyone was having lots of fun.
I would suggest starting promo a little earlier, or making it more noticeable around school with posters, etc. To me, it just didn't seem like there was too much hype around going to the dance during the week.
I agree with Anshul; the DJ wasn't that great, especially with the random pauses of the music.
Overall, I think everyone had a great time, especially later in the dance. Good job Social!
I really liked the theme and how the decorations fit into it! I thought it was super easy for people to dress up to. I also really liked the photo booth and food :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't think that having activities actually on the quad (the ping pong table) was the best idea because it kind of distracted people. I think that we should have the activities, just not right on the quad. Also, I know a lot of people really didn't like the DJ. He didn't really understand the vibe of the dance and he would randomly just stop playing music.
I loved the photobooth props!!! I don't know if it was at any other dance but they were really fun to play with and I saw everybody enjoying it. The wanted poster didn't get as much attention but it was still pretty awesome. Maybe next time put it somewhere with better lighting?
ReplyDeleteI saw a lot of people dressed up for the theme and I was surprised. I guess it was because the theme was so simple that people usually have the clothes for this occasion.
good job!!
Nobody really started dancing until say 8:30 but otherwise it seemed like everybody was enjoying either the pmt, the food truck, or the pingpong table.
Pros:
ReplyDelete-Food truck was AMAZING! I hope we see more of it in the future :)
-Relatively clean for the majority of the dance
-Photobooth is always a plus
Cons:
-People didn't like the DJ (what kind of DJs do people like anyways - we always get this complaint)
-Some people I talked to thought the theme was a bit suggestive
-A bit more decoration? I don't think people really got the vibe of "Wild Wild West", but that could be just because decorations aren't a huge part of WB
All in all, good job Social! :)
The food truck was a nice addition to the dance and was great for anyone who got hungry after jamming (also great way to make money). The relatively simple decorations allowed short setup/cleanup time, though there could have been more theme-related decs to make it more western. I especially liked how the theme was easy to dress up to (plaid shirt/boots), and made it easy for students to look spirited yet casual at the dance.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I felt the the wanted poster didn't get as much attention as we expected, and most people didn't understand that it was for picture taking while waiting for the photobooth. I also noticed that it wasn't made clear to dance attendees that sign out was needed if you wanted to leave the dance before 9 PM. But overall, it was a successful dance. Great job social!
Pros:
ReplyDelete-good attendance. I felt like more people came than last year, but I can't be sure
-photobooth line was never SUUPER long like last year, and the props were really fun
-the last hour in general was really fun- everyone got super into the dancing
-food truck was nice, but it would be great to hear the numbers in terms of whether they made as much as they were expecting to or not
-most people dressed up! Definitely more so than last year.
-I couldn't be at set-up, but clean up was really fast and efficient. Everyone was out by 11. If we had served waffles, clean up definitely would have taken longer, with cleaning out the pans, waffle makers, etc.
Cons:
-DJ wasn't great. I listen to a lot of music, and tbh I didn't know a good number of the songs, which kinda killed the mood. The Link Crew DJ was really good- glad to hear you've booked him again!
-wanted sign was neglected, for the most part. Lighting there was really bad too, so taking pictures was difficult.
-I saw people go out through the ASB den (in through the quad-facing door, out through the planter-facing door, so that probably wasn't as secure as it should have been
I had a lot of fun though! Great job social!
I think the two things people really enjoyed were the photobooth and the food truck. The photobooth is always popular but it helped that there was a variety of props. The food truck was a nice touch because there was something other than snacks to eat. Also, I think the theme for the dance was simple but it worked because it was easy for people to dress up.
ReplyDeleteImprovements: -Like Chelsea said, there weren't many theme-related decorations other than the wanted poster, which almost felt out of place next to the photobooth.
-Also, we had a problem with people and the ASB Den. Some students were just walking in and out the Den and there were a lot of bags and valuables in the Den. It might be safer to just lock the Den or have someone watch that area carefully.
-Also, a lot of people had questions about leaving early so we should really explain what to do at the next dance.
But, overall, the dance was a great way to start the year! Great job Social!!
In terms of "clean dancing," I think is probably the best Welcome Back Dance I've gone to. I don't know if that has anything to do with the demographics in terms of the upperclassmen - underclassmen ratio, but that's definitely a plus.
ReplyDeleteI somewhat agree with what people said about there being few decorations to add to the theme of "Wild Wild West," (mainly just the Wanted sign) but honestly I think that's up to the Social Commissioners because no one cares all that much about the Welcome Back Dance themes to begin with.
The ping pong table was great... if only there was a way to ensure people moved away from it, because from what I could see there were the same four people playing for more or less the entire dance.
As for the DJ... yes, sometimes he did play songs that no one could really dance to or get pumped with. Many songs also did not have any censorship of foul language, so that's definitely something to be taken into consideration for the future.
Overall, I thought it was awesome :)
Pros: -photobooth was a great addition
ReplyDelete-dj was good, except maybe next time we can have a song request list
-the times for the dance were good
Cons:--have games/alternative activities for people who do not want to dance
-having the last song as a slow song was not a great ending to the dance
-better promotion for the dance, possibly a video/more announcements
Pros: Photobooth with props worked really well because it gave people something to do to take a break from dancing.
ReplyDelete-Food truck: Not only did it smell amazing, a lot of people bought food and I heard great comments about the burritos. Maybe smaller portions in the future?
-Ticketing: In general, the dance was really smooth in the sense that a lot of people were prepared to help and almost our whole class was there. There weren't many problems with logistics.
-Decorations: Decs were simple and added to the aesthetic of the dance as a whole.
Cons: More publicity is always helpful. I think the term "freshmen rape" was not as prevalent at Lynbrook but I saw it going around a lot at other schools, specifically Monta Vista. I'm not entirely sure if it is because I am a senior, but I didn't here as many people talking about it. Advertising the low price would have been helpful as well.
Overall, welcome back went really well. The people that went there had a great time and I think they are more likely to come to our future dances.
Pros:
ReplyDelete-Food Truck definitely mixed things up a little and had very yummy food!
-Easy theme to dress up to, a lot of people came in costume
-Photo booth was a big hit and it was a lot of fun!
-DJ picked pretty good songs, but there were quite a few pauses where there was no music
-Lots of underclassmen showed up!
Cons:
-The atmosphere was very dim and dark. It was hard to see anything when playing ping pong or when trying to buy food. Maybe if decorated with themed lighting or christmas lights, it would be a more dance-like and fun atmosphere (if that makes any sense)
-More announcements for the dance, maybe posting profile pictures earlier? Many underclassmen kept asking me when it was.
In general, it was my first welcome back dance, and I had a lot of fun :)
What went well/what I liked:
ReplyDelete-food truck was very good and added variety to the food!
-cool theme, easy to dress up to
-cool photo op with the "WANTED" sign! really added to the theme of the dance
-photobooth gave people something to do and something to keep as a memory from the dance!
-dj got better towards the end
what didn't go too well:
-it was very dark, some people told me they didn't even see the food truck in the corner; maybe we also should have put the food truck somewhere else
-the dj wasn't very good at first; most people didn't really like the songs he chose
Good:
ReplyDelete-Theme seemed easy to dress to
-Food truck was super cool
-DJ was good and seemed like a pretty cool guy
-Everyone got what they wanted in terms of dancing
-Table tennis was fun
Not as good:
-Lights seemed to be lacking
-Freshmen were running around on the dance floor in the cove
-vale of one burrito definitely not equivalent to three tacos
-Senior chant at the end was uncalled for
Overall a very successful event!

ReplyDeleteGreat
ReplyDelete-Amazingly person friendly theme, people actually were all western :)
-Food truck was the best thing EVER. (Keep it pls)
-Photo booth was a big hit, it always is such a good way to keep memories.
-Table tennis (I had my doubts at first) but this was great, people were quite literally lining up just to play!! Great Idea
-YAY Hats Off!!! Social you guys killed it at your first event <3
Not so Great
-DJ was not as good as Link and he alternated between fast paced and slow rather than playing them in the start or end of the dance.
-Make sure that some freshman don't take cover in the cove LOL we should try to get everyone on the dance floor (to the best we can)
-Make sure that only members of ASB can get in and out of the den.It should not be used as a passageway to sneak out of the dance.
Overall I think this was a big hit!! <3 great Job
Pros:
ReplyDelete-Great to see so many people dress the theme. It was easy to dress too, and easy to get involved in.
-Decent turnout, looked like people were having fun
-From what I heard food truck was great!
-Photobooth worked well! The reason the line was long is because it took like 10 seconds between pictures (shorten it down?)
Cons:
-Dimness. Not on the dance floor, but around the outside where food was being sold. Maybe light that up.
-The lighting for the wanted poster wasn't good at all.
-ASB den wasn't secure. I think people snuck in and out through that.
-Maybe have other activities but take them and put them away from the dance floor instead of right next to it?
Pros:
ReplyDelete- Loved the theme (this might just be me, because I could really dress up and I think that adds to every dance dynamic :3)
- Fun, well-roped off ish at least from what I heard
- my friend was really happy there were tables to sit down at during the dance
- good turnout, I saw a lot of people and they brought their friends!
- people came just for the food truck food and I don't think that's a bad thing
- photobooth is always a popular thing :)
Cons:
- the photobooth line blocked out the Wanted sign
- the Wanted sign was very dark, people wanted to take pictures with it but stopped because of the photobooth line/lighting
- the classes selling food was poorly lit, kind of a turnoff in general to want to go buy things from the classes
- perhaps put the tables closer into the quad to make it seem a little more crowded / a little less empty?
- could we do anything about the cove (other than the wild wild west poster), or do we always keep it just empty for bags and the like?
overall it was a lot of fun, I think it was a success!
also, I feel like the "freshman rape dance" name is fading, so I'm really glad that the times are changing :) great work social!
p.s. what was up with the tutus, not sure if it was intentional but people loved that HAHA
Pros:
ReplyDelete-Theme!! It seemed like it was pretty easy for people to dress up for.
-Even though the DJ was ...questionable at times (especially with some of the lack of censoring), he actually played most of the songs my friends and I requested which was a nice change!
-Food truck was great!! Ping pong table also seemed like a big hit. Maybe bust out the JENGA we found in the poster-making closet in the den for those people that aren't too big on jamming out
-Clean dancing for the most part, possibly due to a lot of c/o 2018 showing up (!!!)
-Photobooth: fun, free, great props!
Cons:
-Even though the dimness was good for the dancing floor, the back of the quad near the cafeteria where the classes/food truck were selling food were definitely too dark. Back in Miller dances, the lights strung along the back near the food tables made it a lot more festive!! Possibly an addition for top of the quad/back of the dance floor?
-Wanted poster was half-neglected :'( a lot of my friends didn't know what it was for exactly, and it got dark too soon for the people who would have wanted to take pictures later in the dance
-Advertising!! Details were only released on Tuesday of the week of the dance. It would be helpful if more people knew about it, possibly advertising details from the very first day of school instead of rushing everything in only a few days before the day of the dance. Example would be the food truck: some people I talked to didn't know there would be a truck, so they filled up on dinner before they came to the dance.
Overall, I had an amazing night!! Thanks social for a super ending to my first week back <3
Oh and we found the tutus in our class cabinet in the den, so we thought "why not"
Pros:
ReplyDelete-Awesome theme!! Everyone was easily able to dress to the theme and the decorations looked good
-Food truck was really good! I overheard some people say that they didn't realize it would be so expensive though so maybe advertise the food truck more?
-Clean dancing
-Table tennis
-Not as many people called the dance "freshmen rape" as last year
Cons:
-The DJ played awkward songs to dance to at times and constantly mixed between slow and fast songs which seemed to confuse everyone
-ASB den was open to everyone
-There wasn't a large turnout for sophomores, juniors, and seniors (although maybe it was good that so many freshmen came)
-Some areas were really dark and possibly needed more decorations
In general, this dance was put together very well and the overall turnout was great! Awesome job social!
Great dance! By far the most fun I've had at any high school dance I've ever been to.
ReplyDeleteThis time around I feel like the atmosphere changed. People were less afraid to let go and have fun with their own friend groups.(Probably due to the link crew dance influencing 2018's opinions?)
Some feedback/ideas for next time:
For online social media advertisement, rather than changing "profile pictures", it might be better to just post the picture.
Changing profile pics hides the caption. The picture informs people that there is a dance, the caption entices them to go.
This also keeps away the spam from "changing back" to your original pf.
Besides that though, really liked that the dance theme was easy to dress up to.
I personally liked the music the DJ played, wouldn't mind having him again.
