<3,
ASB SOCIALITES
Alright, so first off, I was definitely impressed by the turnout considering that the promo was only for two weeks! It looked like there were about 60-70 people (I couldn't be sure because of the low light in the gym), but that's really impressive!
ReplyDeleteOne negative thing I heard a lot from people was that the social aspect of this movie night was gone. The first time in the quad, lots of people from various schools came and just chilled out; the movie was almost a second priority to just hanging. The difference between this movie night and the last was that no one could see each other, so being social was rather difficult. If the goal was for more people to actually watch the movie, I'd say the event was successful, but in terms of the event making people excited to go to the next, I'd say it didn't do as well :/ I totally get that you guys moved it to the gym because it's winter and it's cold, and that makes sense. But if we do it in the gym in the future, we should consider adding more activities for people to do in the cove and stuff :)
Overall, well done guys. Looking forward to the next!
I think the movie itself was a really good choice and the fact that it was open to everyone was good too! I think it made a lot of sense to charge for popcorn/hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI do think that it was better in the quad though- it was more airy and people could eat/drink whatever they wanted, so in my opinion, that would be the main to change for next time! -Divyya
There were so many people at movie night!!! I went and it was tons of fun to hang out with my friends. When I walked in though, I could not see a thing. I was a little later than the rest of my friends so I had to get a foot in front of somebody's face to see who they were. But, I liked that we moved it into the gym. The quad was freezing and the gym gave it more of a cozy feeling.
ReplyDeleteyay social!
I partially agree with what Rags/Divyya said about the quad/gym dynamic, but I think it ultimately comes down to what Social thinks is important with a Movie Night event (or what you think will draw in more people).
ReplyDeleteEither way you're sacrificing something: if you have the event in the quad, you have a much more social experience with more people chatting with friends (and probably getting/buying more food); however, the movie has less of a "theater atmosphere" (it's brighter!) and it's a lot harder to hear what's going on in the movie due to the added noise.
If you have the event in the gym, then as Rags stated, people can't socialize unless they're outside of the gym altogether (they'll end up eating less since they can't eat inside the gym as well); of course, you can actually hear and see the movie clearly in the gym, so that's a plus. Both sides have merit, so I think it just comes down to what you (Social) think is movie night's "actual purpose."
And of course, charging $1 for hot chocolate and popcorn was a definite success as well; we should do that next time. You probably won't need as many volunteers for hot chocolate next time, either.
Great movie selection, and a great event, Social!
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteOverall thoughts:
1)Charging for food. I think many people bought food. In the future, maybe we can have a 10 minute intermission? Not everyone knew about the food being sold in the back.
2) Movie choice. I thought you all made a great choice. Maybe next time we can get more suggestions from peers and teachers?
3) Promotion: As always, I think we can do more. Perhaps we can notify the teachers and invite their families? However, most students did know about the night and that's definitely a place to start.
4) Activities: I think it would be nice to have some board games in the cove for students who would not like to watch the whole time.
That's all for now.. Great job, social!

I do not know about location because I was unable to attend the one in the quad!
